Review: Urban Decay Smoked Palette

Two nights ago as I was heading out the door to go to work mom came up to me with a package from Sephora. I didn't recall making an order at anytime from Sephora. Like any sane person I busted through the box, and found Urban Decays Smoked Palette inside. I never remember ordering this, and my mum said she didn't order this either. My birthday is Sunday the 16th so I was suspecting everyone.   There was no payment form on the bill so I had no idea. I texted my boyfriend asking if he sent me this gift, and the only reply I get is "Happy Birthday Babe!" How great is that?! My boyfriend, who lives in Connecticut, bought me this and had it shipped to me in Texas!! I. Love. Him.

I had been yearning for this palette since it was released. It was Urban Decays dark answer to the Naked Palette. Everything about this palette is such a stark difference to the Naked Palette one and two!

Palette Packaging:
Unlike the Naked Palette the Smoked Palette is very sleek and black. It's a zipper pouch with a black zipper, and Smoked stamped on the front. The package is very black, and if you want to be creative thinking it does seem a bit faux leather-y. It does seem to be heavy duty, and I don't think it would break down on you easily. I know, at least for me, sometimes the lid my Naked2 does pop out of place sometimes and can be an ass to place back in order.

Inside there is a slight floral pattern in gray, black and a light purple as well as a very very good sized mirror. It has the ten shadows divided into two rows; one for neutral toned shadows and the other for the colorful shadows. There is also a place in the middle for the eyeliner, which comes in handy when your carrying this palette around in your purse.

A great thing about the Smoked Palette, and like many other UD Palettes, this one came with more than just the shadows. Besides the ten shadows this palette includes a mini original Primer Potion in the new squeeze tube packaging. This is such a great thing to carry in your bag when you want to do a quick eyeshadow look while out, especially for me because I have horribly oily lids and can never wear any sort of color on my eyes without a primer.

This palette also includes a full sized 24/7 eyeliner in Perversion. I was so happy this eyeliner was included because my last one was only half way used and it dried out on me! :( But this eyeliner is my favorite pencil liner, it's so dark, and opaque. It lasts so long as well!

The Shadows!
This palette contains ten shadows; five neutrals that range from skin tone colors to a very dark black and five bolder shadows meant to enhance and make your look pop. All of these combine colors perfectly to create a great smokey eye.

Top Row:
Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, Backdoor, Blackout
Bottom Row:
Barlust, Rockstar, Evidence, Loaded, Asphalt

Swatches:
Left to Right: Kinky, Freestyle, Mushroom, Backdoor, Blackout

Left to Right: Barlust, Rockstar, Evidence, Loaded, Asphalt

This palette has a lot of great colors. But for some it may not be worth the money. Five or the ten colors are brand new; Kinky, Freestyle, Backdoor, Barlust and Asphalt. Where as the other five color colors are repeats; Mushroom, Rockstar, Evidence, Loaded, and Blackout. If you already own the Naked2 palette you will already own Blackout. But it's a great black to own, so two wont hurt you.
Along with the palette, the primer potion as well as the eyeliner the smoked palette comes with a 26 packet full of how-to's for different looks. This palette retails at $49 at your local Sephora, Ulta, as well as Urbandecay.com
